Schools & Communities

The School on Wheels program has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception in 1994. It started off with one school bus that traveled to 17 schools. Today, as many as 88 schools are affiliated to the program. These schools span across 3 districts of Gujarat – Rajkot, Surendranagar and Jamnagar.

Apart from the exponential growth in the number of schools, the School on Wheels program has improved the education experience in its schools. A few qualitative ways in which this has been achieved are:

• By promoting healthy and hygienic school campuses.

• Building libraries in schools and constantly replenishing stocks of books. Today, 66 of the schools have permanent libraries.

• Building much-needed infrastructure in several schools, such as toilets and bathrooms, multipurpose assembly halls, computer centers etc.

• Rebuilding 5 schools destroyed in the 2002 Gujarat earthquake.
